“A healthy community for our familes and children to grow”
Janelle Sharp, a life-long resident of District 6 and proud mother of four children who learn and grow in our community, is committed to standing up for South Anchorage families while working to maintain and grow our wonderful Alaskan community.
About Me
Where I’m From
I was born and raised in South Anchorage where I’m now raising my own family. My parents still live in this community, I know what’s worth protecting and what needs to change.
What I Do
With a background in science and systems, and experience leading ANSEP’s Anchorage Acceleration Academy, I’ve built programs that deliver real results for students and families. I know how to navigate complex systems and how to get them working for people.
Why I’m Running
Anchorage needs to feel safe again. Public disorder and open-air drug use cannot be the norm. Our tax dollars need to go further, and residents deserve transparency and accountability.
How I Lead
I lead with focus, honesty, and accountability. No political games, no distractions. Just results.
What You Can Expect:
A strong voice for public safety
A diligent eye on your tax dollars
Representation for every corner of South Anchorage
Key Issues
Public Safety
Anchorage families deserve safe streets, safe trails, and safe neighborhoods. Right now, too many areas are dealing with theft, open drug use, and public disorder. This is not acceptable.
My Plan:
Support APD with tools and staffing they need
Stop open-air drug use and enforce nuisance crime laws
Protect neighborhoods and trails with targeted safety improvements
We can restore order and create communities where families and residents feel secure.
Fiscal Responsibility
Anchorage residents already pay some of the highest local taxes in Alaska, yet services keep declining. Taxpayers deserve better.
My Plan:
Transparent budgets that anyone can read and understand
Independent audits as a routine city practice
Stop wasteful spending and demand results for every tax dollar
We all work hard for our money. Local government should too.
Homelessness
Sidewalks, parks, and trails should never become permanent camps. It’s unsafe for families and residents, and it does nothing to help people in crisis.
My Plan:
No public camping - set and enforce clear standards across the city
Real options - expand shelters, transitional housing, and treatment programs
Team approach - coordinate outreach and police to connect people with help
Provider accountability - require measurable outcomes for city-funded programs
Compassion requires action. We help people by moving them off the street and toward stability, while restoring safe, livable neighborhoods.
